In Tridute: Taniwêhâ in Plains Cree symbols means, Where are they?

Where are my sisters?

This piece is my tribute to the murdered indigenous women and girls of Canada’s national tragedy.

The Government of Canada under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau established the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in September 2016.

According to the April 22, 2016 background of the inquiry, between the years 1980 and 2012, Indigenous women and girls represented 16% of all female homicides in Canada, while constituting only 4% of the female population.

The NIMMI is only an inquiry. It’s up to all of us to put an end to these atrocities; no more excuses!
