Contemporary, Canadian Sculptor

Douglas Squarek sculpting

Sculptor, outdoor enthusiast, and burgeoning video podcaster.

I have been creating bold, contemporary sculpture for over fifty years. I expand my portfolio as I embrace new subjects and mediums. I work in studio and, with my future Sculpture Wagon, I will sculpt al fresco in 2025.

I was born in the Crowsnest Pass, on the Alberta side of the Canadian Rocky Mountains; at the edge of wilderness, I have been an outdoor enthusiast all my life. I took a gap year after completing high school, as a certified Canadian Alliance Ski Instructor, to ski in Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains and returned to my studies while in Quebec. I graduated from Concordia University of Montreal, with a Major in Marketing. I live in Quebec city where I work as an artist and where I will hold my Squarek-Sculpt25 solo exhibition.

A display of Squarek stone sculpture

I started sculpting in stone in the late 70’s, using Canadian Serpentine stone I found in northern Quebec.

A dosplay of Squarek bronze sculpture

I began sculpting clay-to-bronze in 2005. My limited-edition bronze works are crafted  in Inverness, Quebec.

A Squarek color sculpture

I continue to perfect the color-sculpted work I do on aluminum panels I began in 2012.

A dosplay of Squarek wearable microcystal sculpture

I create wearable sculpture in  microcrystalline quartz beach stone; drawing from my extensive beach stone collection.
